Australian National Fabrication Facility (ANFF)

Projects / Education & Research

The Australian National Fabrication Facility (ANFF) with UQ’s AIBN Building required an extension to accommodate growth in research and infrastructure requirements. The current cleanrooms were not meeting the anticipated needs and the choice was made to refurbish the adjoining meeting and lobby spaces and convert them into laboratories. The project delivered a further 65m2 of Class 10000 cleanroom which was vital to accommodate new and existing equipment. Consequential to all these works were significant infrastructure upgrades to accommodate the associated plant. Such a large refurbishment also involved a significant upgrade to the existing cleanrooms. As such, intensive works were undertaken to coordinate the new mechanical services runs within the ceiling space of the adjoining PC2 laboratory.

All of the works were undertaken withing a live laboratory environment. To enable this DM2 played a leading role in developing the scope for the contractors to stage the works, and also for the client to manage their lab operations within the legislative frameworks. This enabled for the smooth delivery of the construction works while also maintaining the operations for ANFF.
