Pyrometallurgy Laboratories, The University of Queensland

Projects / Education & Research

Client: The University of Queensland, Long Pocket Banksia Building

The Frank White Decanting program involved the relocation of all University staff and facilities to allow for the building’s demolition and subsequent construction of a new Sustainable Futures building.

The Pyrometallurgy and Hydrometallurgy Laboratories provides worldwide research, testing and analysis for the University’s School of Chemical Engineering. Activities involve a number of complex systems and house a number of furnaces and fume cupboards to accommodate the testing of metals and gases.  As part of our design solution major upgrade to the Long Pocket building was required to accommodate the laboratory’s infrastructure and activities, including numerous compliance and workplace health and safety issues associated with dangerous use and updating due to the building’s age.
