This Research and Interpretation facility was to be the public face of a large Queensland Government project on a semi rural site North of the Sunshine Coast. The development was to bring together Research Laboratories, Lecture Theaters an Interpretation Center and Café for use by both public and private entities. The development also had remote accommodation to house users of the research labs.

The development took on a monumental, civil and over scaled aesthetic as a gesture to the project whole , but also as a response to unique the civil skills and opportunities presented by the client. The design also sought to take advantage of the sweeping vistas.

Natural Assets

While careful attention was paid to passive design and shading component of the buildings the project also took advantage of the sites natural assets to look at innovative approaches to servicing and air-conditioning to minimise the environmental impact and running costs.
