The University of Queensland, Plant Industries Building, Teaching Laboratories

DM2 Architecture were engaged to design practical teaching laboratories for the School of Agriculture & Food Service at the University of Queensland Gatton Campus.

By combining two 36 seat laboratories and preparation spaces DM2 Architecture delivered a single, flexible 120 seat practical teaching laboratory. Planning for the new space utilised a large wing of the building to accommodate the new laboratory as well as its associated preparation and storage spaces.

This layout creates a single open space able to conduct classes in three modes – large group lectures, dual lectures or four individual tutor or practical study groups. The lab’s flexibility is enhanced by the integration of traditional wet laboratory tasks with highly adaptable Audio Visual and IT systems.
