The University of Queensland, Goddard Building Level 2, Student Laboratories

Tasked with redeveloping the School of Biological Sciences’ first year teaching labs and their support spaces, DM2 Architecture set out to create a dynamic teaching space for the first year biology students.

This project involved the refurbishing 750m2 of existing laboratories and preparation spaces into two labs accommodating 112 students each. Research and design led to the DM2 Architecture team proposing the creation of separate pods for each tutor group.

These acoustically separated pods feature high end computer and audio visual connectivity, setting up points for collaboration within the broader lecture setting. This approach has created a flexible space which allows for highly efficient curriculum delivery and improved distribution of information and ideas between students and staff.
