Physiology & Pharmacology Teaching Laboratories

Projects / Education & Research

Client: University of Queensland

The primary driver for this refurbishment was to upgrade and expand teaching capacity for the Pharmacology and Physiology Laboratories. Functionality and technical execution were major considerations for the University, both to progress educational delivery and ensure that the upgrade of a 1960s building was resolved with efficiency and attention to detail. Users sought to adopt a ‘think different’ approach, to not only accommodating an increase in student capacity from 36 to 60 but also to consider both size requirements and accessibility, particularly cabling and services.

As such the laboratory bench design was a particular focus, with a full size mock up used as part of our stakeholder engagement process. Delivery of the laboratory teaching program is dynamic in combining the use of testing equipment and computer hardware, resulting in the opportunity to enhance and develop workflow.
