Ipswich State High School Performing Arts Building was developed as a new home for the Schools Creative Arts Program. Located on the edge of the school campus the new facility was cited as part of an initial master planning strategy to include further expansion of facilities to enhance community engagement, while addressing legacy issues associated with site circulation and flooding.
The project centralised the arts functions and freed up space for general learning areas to be built to meet the growing student intake. Flexibility was key to the auditorium design so that it can switch between large and small scale theatre modes as required. In addition to the main performance space the building accommodates media studios, music rooms including ensemble rehearsal studios, practice spaces, recording spaces and general learning classrooms.
