This major redevelopment for the RFDS sought to embrace the heritage of the organisation whilst creating an identity in form and colour that would become representative of all airport facilities for this national service. Replacing the existing 1940s buildings, for the first time, the new facility integrated all frontline and support services in one location including aircraft hangar, nurses stations, pilot rooms, administration offices, a tele-health room, patient and staff amenities.  Identifying with the Queensland outback vernacular the complex is a series of interconnecting metal ‘sheds’, with carefully selected finishes to connect to the red earth and rural toughness. The pragmatic response aligns with RFDS’s own philosophy of no fuss service to the community.
