DM2 ARE KICKING GOALS!

Our football teams may have capitulated come the pointy end of the season but we at DM2 have been kicking some goals this season. Welcome to DM2’s Spring newsletter, which signals a special time in our development as a practice with many milestones to celebrate.

This year we celebrate a significant 15 Years as DM2 Architecture, whilst also marking 40 years from the commencement of the practice originally established as Dimitriou Architects.  We have built a diverse portfolio of works in this time, have moved office locations several times, but our foundations of client focused results and purpose driven creativity haven’t wavered.

The Bigger Big Rig

The recently opened Bigger Big Rig observation tower and treetop walkway is providing a lot of buzz and excitement in Roma.
DM2 were engaged by The Maranoa Council to enhance the show experience celebrating the historic EMSCO big rig on display at Roma’s Big Rig park.
The primary function of the tower was to allow guests to experience and appreciate the bravery of the riggers, as they scale the tower to the same height of the historic rig.
The top of the tower, an observation platform that cantilevers out towards the Big Rig, provides 360 degrees views taking in unique vistas of Roma and the surrounding outback landscape.
The structural design was coordinated with RMA Engineers and the project build was recently completed and handed over by Hutchinson Builders.

Patina Restaurant The University of Queensland

DM2 is very proud to be part of the delivery of UQ’s latest Hospitality venue.  “Patina” is the third food and beverage facility designed by DM2 on the St Lucia Campus in the last 3 years.  Following on from the Physiol Refectory and Biosciences Library Forecourt, the new restaurant will operate in tandem with Customs House, and it will help diversify the dining options on campus.

Commendation Awarded For Residential Architecture

DM2 are proud to have Bal Harbour awarded a commendation in the Gold Coast Regional AIA Architecture Awards.

Perfectly situated on a stunning waterfront block in Broadbeach Waters, the brief was to design a new house that would work in harmony with the idyllic surroundings. The vision was to create an innate connection with the waterfront views that allowed vantage points throughout the home and made them an integral part of the entry experience. DM2 designed the building to have two purposeful sections connected using a central link, allowing creation of a separate music retreat and guest suite to fulfil the client’s needs. The central link acts as both an adjustable privacy screen and a main entertainment space, ensuring the home has a focus on function and usability.

These are unusual times

I’m sure we are all over hearing the phrase “these are unusual times” but it has been an intriguing period with changing work environments. As the various forms of lockdown and social distancing took effect and our workplaces changed, I couldn’t help but reflect on my thesis from some 20+ years ago.

DM2 Newsletter May 2020 – Education

Students at Southport SHS welcomed the start of the 2020 year with the completion of the new “Cultivate” general learning building. Unfortunately, they barely got to warm the seats before COVID meant an impromptu hiatus, however, I am sure the cohort will make the most of the facilities once classes resume.
